To elaborate, once the scaffold is gone the blocks remain where they are, instead of falling like irl. Also, I build over water so I don't die when I fall/jump off during construction.

I usually build a scaffold out of dirt which doubles as a measuring tool, and then when I'm done I remove the scaffolding.
